Work on Jip De Jager continues
The City of Cape Town says work continues to be done in dualling Jip de Jager Drive in Bellville to alleviate congestion. The 2,3km stretch of road between Kommissaris Street and Van Rieveeckshof Road is expected to be completed by December next year. The City says its one of the biggest road construction projects to alleviate congestion in that part of the city in recent years.
Investigation around high essential food prices
The Competition Commission has launched an investigation into the price of essential food products as consumers have been dealing with what it calls, opportunistic increases. The Commission’s work to date on food prices pointed to concerning price behaviour by retailers and wholesalers.

The Centre for Development and Enterprise says South Africa has become one of the worst-performing education systems in the world.
This follows the release of reports outlining the failings, factors responsible, and recommendations to improve. The centre has called for the removal of the Minister of Basic Education and a total reform in programmes to improve the quality of teaching.
Thai police investigate woman’s death hours after breast surgery
Police in Thailand have launched an investigation after a customer to a clinic lost consciousness and died just six hours after her breast augmentation surgery. News reports now suggests that the Thai Health Departments legal division had found that the clinic only holds a license to perform minor surgeries. Investigating officers say they are examining licenses and documents, silicone quality, the operating room, drugs dispensed to patients, and equipment at the clinic.
