NSRI calls on public to practice caution around bodies of water, amid releasing drowning stats
The National Sea Rescue Institute is calling on people to practice caution and safety around bodies of water this summer season. A recent study conducted by the NSRI has revealed that children under the age of four have the highest prevalence of drownings among all the age categories in the country. Data shows that close to 2,800 drownings were recorded in South Africa over a six year period.
City’s law enforcement makes more than 240 arrests over the past week
In its crackdown of the criminal element, the City’s Traffic Services, Law Enforcement and Metro Police Departments have affected more than 240 arrests over the past week. Officers also issued nearly 64,0000 fines.
The City’s JP Smith says that that amounts to 18 arrests in just more than 48 hours, all thanks to officers being on the roads, conducting patrols, and being observant.
Venezuelan president to visit South Africa next month
President Cyril Ramaphosa will be hosting Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro in Pretoria early next month. The State Visit will solidify the already strong relations between South Africa and Venezuela. The visit will highlight the existing cooperation between the two countries and consolidate concrete actions for mutual benefit of the South African and Venezuelan people

The US space agency’s Orion capsule has reached a key milestone on its demonstration mission around the Moon.
It moved some 430,000km beyond the Earth – the furthest any spacecraft designed to carry humans has travelled.
The ship is uncrewed on this occasion, but if it completes the current flight without incident, astronauts will be on the next outing in two years’ time.
