Province struggling to fend off Construction Mafia 

The Western Cape is struggling to fend off the so-called Construction Mafia as it had lost 125 housing opportunities. The Province is said to have lost R160million to land grabs. The Infrastructure Department in the Province says that since Covid, land was taken by informal dwellers and had then been rented out which had become a massive headache for local government. The Infrastructure MEC Tertius Simmers says a comprehensive plan has been setup to help combat the construction mafia problem in the Province.

The Basic Education Department is considering protection orders that bullied children can obtain against their peers, potentially leading to bullies facing jail time or social services interventions. However, legal experts suggest refining the approach before implementing it, as young children might not fully grasp ethical distinctions, posing potential challenges.,

Mauritius a tax haven for South Africans

It seems more and more South Africans are moving to Mauritius after retirement. The island is viewed as a safe haven as well as a place offering good tax incentives for South Africans. Between 2014 and the middle of last year, the Bank of Mauritius reported direct foreign investment in high end property of around R25billion, which is roughly 40% of the island’s total international investment.

City honours and empowers women at a recent event

The City’s Social Development and Early Childhood Development Departments organized an event to empower and honor women. Over 150 attendees enjoyed therapeutic activities, relaxation, and discussions about empowerment, with emphasis on gender-based violence and support for young women dealing with trauma. The program aimed to raise awareness about women’s significant societal roles while providing opportunities for growth.
