COCT Traffic services offers free vehicle checks for long distance transport operators 

As thousands of travellers prepare to hit the road this week, the City’s Traffic Service’s says they will once again offer free vehicle checks for long distance public transport operators, under the auspices of Operation Exodus.
The operation is an annual vehicle safety awareness campaign hosted by the City of Cape Town’s Traffic Service.
Public transport operators can take their vehicles to the Joe Gqabi Driving Licence Testing Centre and Bellville Traffic Department from today through to Friday December 23rd.

Western Cape residents to practice fire safety this festive season – WC Gov 

The Western Cape government is urging residents in the province to practice fire safety this festive season as temperatures begin to rise. Western Cape Infrastructure MEC Tertius Simmers said most fires are caused by a lack of concentration or carelessness, especially in informal settlements. Simmers said cigarette butts as well as illegal and overloaded electrical connections are just some of the causes of deadly fires.

Progress made at the Western Cape Police Forensic Science Laboratory 

The Western Cape Minister of Police Oversight and Community Safety, Reagen Allen says a recent visit to the province’s Police Forensic Science Laboratory shows that the reduction in the DNA backlog is making steady progress.
The current backlog is at more than 15, 200 cases. Just over a year ago it was over 80 000 cases.
Allen says the more the lab is able to address their backlog, the quicker perpetrators who are standing trial can be held accountable for their crimes.

Capetonian part of the crew on Netflix hit series ‘Wednesday’ 

“Wednesday”, the English-language Netflix series with the most viewing time ever recorded in a single week, boasts a renowned cast that includes local talent Jenny Umbhau.
Jenny is a stuntwoman born in Cape Town who plays the lead stunt double on the show. Umbhau worked alongside rising star Jenna Ortega, an American actress who plays the main role, Wednesday Addams. The show’s Netflix debut saw over 50 million viewers streaming 341 million hours in the first week.
